Quinn on the podium at Oulton Park
TRS Arden and Alex Quinn added another podium to their tally for 2017 in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost at Oulton Park.
From third on the grid Quinn flew past Logan Sargeant to take second place. He was then in hot pursuit of poleman Jamie Caroline who built an early advantage of several seconds in the wet conditions caused by a rain shower prior to the race.
Quinn responded brilliantly as the race progressed, reducing the gap by one second. However, Caroline had just enough pace in hand to control the gap to Quinn who himself had to protect his advantage over the hard-charging Linus Lundqvist late on.
The Cornish youngster took 2nd at the flag to add another podium to his 2017 tally.
The second race of the weekend was thwarted for Quinn - following contact on the opening lap with Caroline which saw him fall down the order having started fifth on the grid - narrowly missing the barriers on the exit of turn one after he was turned around into a spectacular spin!
Alex persevered and was involved in a thrilling four-way scrap for the final points paying positions; ultimately coming out on top to finish eighth. Fastest lap acted as further consolation for the Cornish racer and came as no surprise given the pace he showed throughout the weekend, having topped Friday testing and finishing second in Saturday’s race.
Due to stoppages on Saturday, the third race has been rescheduled to take place at the Knockhill round.
Alex Quinn: “It’s nice to be on the podium. Jamie and I were very similar in terms of pace. We were quick in different parts of the track though. I was quick in the technical parts of the track, but not quite as quick in the faster parts. The race was challenging with wet and dry conditions. It was a fun race to drive and I’m happy with the podium. I was trying to cool the tyres down at the end, looking for the damp patches on the circuit. I saw Lundqvist was catching me. He was very quick towards the end whereas we were very quick at the beginning.”
The next round of the British F4 Championship takes place at Croft in North Yorkshire on the 10-11 June, where Alex Quinn and the TRS Arden drivers will be once again hunting for podiums and victories.
